People Are Using the Grounds of Queen Elizabeth's Balmoral Estate as a Toilet

Queen Elizabeth may not be at Balmoral Castle, her residence in Scotland, right now, but walkers on the property are certainly making themselves at home. The estate's staff is reporting that people have been defecating on the grounds, and leaving wet wipes behind. It's a problem possibly stemming from the fact that public restrooms are currently closed at the property because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic lockdown.

"Disappointed to see so many wipes discarded on the Estate today. Next to paths and monuments. Please remember there are no public toilets open for miles around at the moment," reads one social media post from the estate, which was accompanied by multiple photos of litter on the ground.

Balmoral Castle also posted specific instructions for people who need to relieve themselves outside on the grounds.

"Whilst toilets are closed. If you need to pee, please do so at least 30 metres from lochs or streams. If you need to defecate, do so as far away as possible from buildings, paths, water courses and farm animals. Bury faeces in a shallow hole and replace the turf."

Additionally, the account retweeted a post from the Scottish Natural Heritage agency asking that people pack up their litter and take it with them.

Queen Elizabeth typically travels to Scotland at the end of June, and spends a weeks-long summer vacation at Balmoral Castle, but for now, she remains at Windsor Castle, and it's unclear when she and Prince Philip plan to travel again.

Should the royals head north, hopefully someone can get this poop situation resolved before they arrive.
