2023 seems to be the year of recapturing the vibes of the early 2000s, and that includes how people are celebrating their summers.

Now, TikTok users are filming odes to the 2009’s Hannah Montana: The Movie, which saw lead character Miley Stewart — played by Miley Cyrus — move back to Tennessee. Based on the popular Disney Channel series, the movie showed the high school student living a double life as a pop star while settling down and enjoying life as a normal teen in her hometown.

And in honor of the movie and its message of slowing down and enjoying life, TikTokers are sharing their own “Miley Stewart” summers.

The ‘Miley Stewart Summer’ girl

Magali “Magsie” Neiteler (@magalinigellaneiteler), who calls herself the “Miley Stewart Summer” girl on TikTok, seems to have started the trend with videos of her life full of peaceful summer nights, plenty of horse-riding and lots of country scenes.

She explained in a video from May 2022 that her “Miley Stewart” summer was beginning — and that her parents actually used to call her Miley when she was little.

Neiteler has a self-portrayed love of “looking at cowboys” and “singing country” songs, and in her comments, she revealed she was a fan of Hannah Montana as a child.

Many of Neiteler’s videos are simply captioned #mileystewartsummer and picture aesthetic shots of her cowgirl boots, horse riding and scenes of her in the countryside life, complete with a cowgirl hat and flannel shirts. And, of course, many of her TikToks are set to Cyrus’ songs from the movie.

“THIS is actually a Miley Stewart summer,” one commenter pointed out.

“This is the dream,” another agreed.

Neiteler is so dedicated to her Miley Stewart summer, in fact, that one keen follower even noticed that she shared a whole outfit with the pop-star actress.

“you having the same outfit aaaahh,” said one fan.

“I know! It’s one of my favorite outfits and I didn’t even notice it was the same until I rewatched the movie but I think my inner child knew,” Neiteler replied.

Neiteler’s trend of the Miley Stewart summer has caught on, and other TikTokers — including those who actually live in Tennessee just like Stewart’s character — are sharing their own similar summer videos.

More than Hannah Montana

While TikTok user @annewithane.___ aptly noted that Neiteler’s videos are giving “Hannah Montana vibes,” the trend of a Miley Stewart summer is even bigger than Hannah Montana’s star power.

“I didn’t know how badly i wanted this until rn,” wrote a commenter.

Because like the movie’s theme suggested, the Miley Stewart summer is about the message of realizing that everyone has worth, no matter what they do or where they work, and everyone deserves a life that prioritizes mental health, rest and relaxation.

You don’t have to be a pop star to enjoy downtime, and in fact, the Miley Stewart summer seems to promote that a life spent opposite of “hustle culture” may be even more beautiful.

“I think this life would fill the void for me,” one person commented.

“this made me cry because being a californian/from the sf bay area is so bland and i’ll never know what it’s like to live like this,” another added.

Not everyone has access to the wide-open countryside or the know-how to ride and care for horses, but for those who are able to find it, a Miley Stewart summer is about slowing down in ways that can refuel.

Some TikTokers are getting creative in their quest for their own Miley Stewart summer.

“Anyone got a farm I can borrow for my Miley summer?” one person asked with a laughing emoji.

And if the Miley Stewart summer alone isn’t quite your vibe, don’t worry — because other TikTokers are already creating the next big trend: The Summer I Turned Pretty x Miley Stewart Summer, which seems to be a little bit of both country and city.
