People Think Taylor Swift Is Behind a Mysterious New Cover of ‘Look What You Made Me Do’

Taylor Swift gave a shoutout to a cover of "Look What You Made Me Do" from the May 24 episode of Killing Eve, and it might not have been that newsworthy if it hadn't been for the mysterious band that performed it.

Swift stans went down a Twitter rabbit hole when they learned the song was credited to Jack Leopards & the Dolphin Club, a group with no other music history, which seemingly materialized out of thin air. They concluded that Swift, her brother Austin, and Jack Antonoff were behind the track as a way to outsmart the music industry and get past Scooter Braun's rights to her masters (i.e., most of her music pre-Lover).

The thing is, the conspiracy theories...actually make sense. Swifties quickly noticed a few things: "Dolphin Club" used to be Austin's old Twitter handle, and the image used to promote the single looks a lot like a picture of him from childhood. Lots of people think Austin is singing on the track, pointing to a Daily Mail report that alleges Taylor had asked Killing Eve creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge to give her brother a slot on the show's soundtrack.

But of course, there's more. When fans did a deep dive into the song credits, they found the name Nils Sjöberg listed as one of the producers and realized this is an alter ego Swift has used in the past. She used the alias for her writing credit on "This Is What You Came For," a song she surreptitiously worked on for Calvin Harris and Rihanna. The name also appeared on a tombstone in a scene of the original "Look What You Made Me Do" video. BTW, Antonoff was listed as the other producer on the track.

So why would she go through such lengths to produce a top-secret cover? Fans think it was to prevent licensing of the original, which her former manager Braun owns as part of a purchase of her catalog—an industry deal she has repeatedly spoken out against. She's even indicated that she's planning to re-record her entire discography, which could keep him from making money off her past work.

If true, fans are all about it. "Taylor made up a whole band called 'Jack Leopards and The Dolphin Club' consisting of herself, Austin Swift, and Jack Antonoff to cover 'LWYMMD' which is sung by Austin, partly produced by Taylor herself to not let Scooter gain a single cent from it?" one person wrote on Twitter. "TAYLOR SWIFT IS A GENIUS."

Look what he made her do. Sorry, that was just too easy.
