TGI Fridays Mozzarella Sticks Lawsuit Heats UpAmazon

Mozzarella sticks are a super popular snack—there are even stats to prove it. Whether you're making a homemade batch or ordering them at your favorite restaurant, mozzarella sticks are consistently a solid choice. So imagine the excitement of snackers across the country when a packaged version of TGI Fridays mozzarella sticks hit shelves.

Well, before you excitedly dive into your next bag of TGI Fridays Mozzarella Sticks Snacks, there's something you should know: the snacks don't actually contain any mozzarella. That's right, the snack version of TGI Fridays Mozzarella Sticks (not to be confused with the frozen mozzarella sticks) are made using cheddar cheese, and there's a lawsuit over the allegedly misbranded product.

The lawsuit against Inventure Foods Inc. and TGI Fridays Inc. was filed on February 5, 2021 by Amy Joseph, Today reports. Joseph, who purchased a six-pack of the sticks on Amazon, claimed that the snack chips violate the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Trade Practices Act because that they don't contain any mozzarella cheese.

Although the suit was filed last year, in late November a judge ruled that the lawsuit could move forward against Inventure Foods Inc. and not TGI Fridays since the restaurant merely licensed its logo to Inventure.

Joseph's suit against Inventure comes after a string of lawsuits in the past year against food brands for misleading customers. A recent case involved Velveeta Shells & Cheese: a Florida woman is suing the brand's parent company, Kraft Heinz, because the packaging claims the product will be ready to eat in three-and-a-half minutes, when in fact that's just the time it takes to microwave the shells.
