People Are Sharing Examples Of How Modern Homes Are Poorly Made, And It's Actually Super Interesting

Recently, I wrote posts about people sharing examples that prove how modern homes are poorly made/designed. Our BuzzFeed Community came through in the comments with examples of their own, and they're pretty spot-on.

Here's what they said:

."No broom closets. Where the hell do people put their mops and vacuum cleaners?"

."Removing stair banisters for a crisp look. Like, your drunk friend is going to fall off the side and die one day. There are building codes for a reason."

."Space just for space. Huge landings at the top of the stairs that you can't do a thing with. Huge bathrooms for absolutely no reason. Huge bedrooms. What are you going to put in there when a California king bed only takes up a fraction of the space? It's just such a waste, and you have to heat all that open space too."

."Hollow interior doors that don't keep sound out from within the house and hallways — especially hollow bedroom doors when you're trying to sleep."

."Lately, 'facade' is everything! Walls that had a brick VENEER exterior, with only a flimsy wood frame and drywall behind them. I could hear my neighbor start his car, from my bedroom — on the other side of my house — with the windows closed. But as long as the house has an expensive 'look' to it, that’s all that seems to matter!"

."Dumbest trend for me is when people build these big-ass houses with giant windows and high ceilings in cold climates. You are either going to spend a fortune on heating or freeze your ass off six months of the year. People care more about showing off than they do their own comfort, honestly."

."Please let the ductless microwave over the range trend die!"

."Garages that are too narrow and too short. You can't build a workbench in the front, and you can barely open the car door without banging the other car."

."I have always despised the 'snout house' look, so i'm glad to know it's not just me. I get that garages are functional and necessary, but when you stand in front of your house and two-thirds of what you see is garage, it's ugly to me. I get why they do it, but man, if i'm gonna take the plunge and buy a house, I want it to look like a house, not a back room attached to a garage."

."Laundry rooms NEED a sink. We don’t have one in this home, and it’s so frustrating. And I dislike that it’s not attached to the garage, but near our den and bathroom. So, it’s loud."

."Here’s one that baffles me in this day and age: Houses are really not set up for internet. The houses in my neighborhood (built in 2017) and the surrounding neighborhoods (all built within the same year or a year later) are wired for cable TV. This is fine if you’re okay with landline internet — very inconvenient most of the time though."

."I went to a 'Parade of Homes' not that long ago, and I was nauseated by the fact that EVERY one of these newly constructed houses had barn doors and shiplap out the wazoo. Not only will it look so dated in a few years (the late 2010s/early 2020s equivalent of shag carpet and wood paneling), but the barn doors offer NO PRIVACY!"

."I hate when they make everything built-in — the TV, the microwave, the fridge. Forty years ago, things were made to last. Now, it lasts five to 10 years, and then you have to spend extra money on re-fitting the appliance, or have a weird gap around it."

."I hate open floor plans. I have a friend whose downstairs is literally just one room. If someone is watching tv, everyone has to either watch it or go into her bedrooms. The worst designed house ever."

."Loft bedrooms — I can hear you in the morning downstairs making your coffee."

And lastly:

."Why do modern home architects hate coat closets?"
