Someone page the doctor because Grey’s Anatomy alum Patrick Dempsey has been named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2023.

The star’s new cover was unveiled last night on People’s official Instagram page as well as the publication’s official website. In the exclusive interview, Dempsey, 57, revealed he was completely “shocked” to hear he was crowned this year’s Sexiest Man Alive. Other recent winners of the title include Chris Evans (2022), Paul Rudd (2021), Michael B. Jordan (2020) and John Legend (2019).

“I was completely shocked, and then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid!” he told the outlet. “I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good.”

Dempsey added, “I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life. It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive.”

When asked about how his family would respond to the news, the Enchanted actor shared that his kids are “just going to make fun” and “pick on me.” He continued, “And figure out every reason why I shouldn’t be. Which is good, they keep me young.”

In case you didn’t know, Dempsey is the proud dad of three children—Talula, 21, and twins Sullivan and Darby, 16—whom he shares with his wife, Jillian, 57.

In addition to starring in the new horror movie Thanksgiving (which comes out later this month), Dempsey will also play a prominent role in the new biopic Ferrari, in which he will portray Italian race car driver Piero Taruffi on the big screen.

While talking to People, the actor shared how much he wanted to be a part of the project. “I’d been following the movie for years, so I called [director Michael Mann] and said, ‘I want to discuss being a part of this,’” Dempsey explained. “That taught me if you really want something, you have to do it yourself.”

Congrats, Patrick!
