From Good Housekeeping

  • Paramount+ has unveiled a new Super Bowl advertising campaign that features 15+ iconic television characters and personalities.

  • The commercials, which premiered during last week's AFC Championship game, feature cameos from host James Corden, music icon DJ Khaled, and Jersey Shore's Snooki, all alongside characters like Dora the Explorer, Star Trek's Spock, and Beavis and Butthead.

  • You can watch as this wild adventure concludes on Super Bowl Sunday, where additional 30-second ads will show even more of the hilarious interactions between the commercial's wild cast.

It's a weird year for Super Bowl Sunday fans: Parties will be smaller than ever, and diehard football fans will have to connect with each other virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic. And our beloved Super Bowl ads are changing, too — brands like Coca-Cola and Pepsi will not be debuting new commercials. Anheuser-Busch and its Budweiser brand are also breaking tradition for the first time in 37 years, redirecting its advertising budget to the Ad Council working to educate Americans on vaccines. But Paramount Pictures and ViacomCBS have concocted a totally wild ad campaign that highlights some of its most iconic television characters and real-life hosts together on the screen.

Fans were surprised to discover the advertising campaign, which first aired during Sunday's Bills and Chiefs' matchup, featuring more than 15 iconic characters and real-life television personalities on screen at once. It's all to promote Paramount+, a new streaming service that may eventually replace CBS All Access, a service that hosts beloved series and shows, everything from Star Trek to Beavis and Butthead and Dora the Explorer to the ever-popular Paw Patrol.

Against the backdrop of Paramount's iconic snowy peak (all TV fans will appreciate the reference!), viewers watch as a everyone gathers to begin an epic journey. Survivor fans will immediately recognize the series' host Jeff Probst in the commercial's first few seconds, who carries his own torch(!) and is flanked by CBS News' Gayle King and Norah O'Donnell. Shortly after, a few characters from Star Trek — including Spock himself! — come into the picture as they trek through the snow alongside Blue Blood's Frank Reagan (played by Tom Selleck, of course) and the Paw Patrol pups.

In the first ad's most show-stopping moment, we can't help but smile as James Corden whips up a snowbank on a snowmobile (hair intact!) with none other than Dora herself. For some, the moment may be overshadowed by the ad's conclusion, when the narrator introduces Jersey Shore's Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi in bringing up the rear. "I'm too hungover for this," she exclaims.

Fans couldn't get enough of the seemingly random mashup of all the personalities. The first commercial, which has racked up over 100K views since it was posted on Sunday, has a deluge of fans in conversation in the comments section: "I don't care what anyone says," one viewer wrote, "This is the best ad in history."

It's not the only ad football fans were treated to, either — Paramount also unveiled a second spot, featuring the crew at the base of the mountain as they prepare to ascend.

It starts with Dora prepping her friends for the journey, before former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher throws a flag on the play, so to speak. "Who made you the leader, just because you have a talking map?!" Cowher exclaims, drawing a puzzled look from a nearby DJ Khaled, who is wearing a Grammy around his neck for good measure. It's a tease of more of the journey to come, as a Paramount+ representative tells us that more advertisements will air on Super Bowl Sunday next weekend.

Itching to see more of this bizarre-turned-hilarious journey unfold? You can catch new 30 ads as they air on the Paramount+ Instagram page, and keep your eyes peeled during the big game. We can't help but wonder who will reach the peak first — Spock, or Snooki?! Only time will tell.
