Tie-dye has been splattered all over the spring/summer 2019 runways for luxury brands like Stella McCartney, Prada, and Proenza Schouler. Taylor Swift is officially obsessed with the print, and Kylie Jenner has been showing off tie-dye nails. Now Starbucks is hopping on the trend with its new summer sip, the Tie-Dye Frappuccino. The drink, which hit the menu July 10th, looks like fireworks in a cup, a melted rainbow, Lana Del Rey’s summertime sadness—guys, it’s bonkers. But let’s be honest with ourselves. We’re absolutely going to try it.
The new, tropical-flavored drink is only available for a limited time—Starbucks has said “a few days.” Just like the Unicorn Frapp before it, the Tie-Dye Frapp is bound to make us pucker up and give a major sugar high. Also like the Unicorn drink, it’s dividing the internet.
Some are loving the Instagram-friendly Frapp.
Fans of the divisive beverage are saying the flavor isn’t too sweet and it tastes like banana Laffy Taffy.
Tie dyed frappucino! I really like it. I only detected a hint of banana. It's more sour than anything. Like a Sour Patch Kid, but not THAT sour. Definitely not sweet. #StarbucksSummerSippin #TieDyeFrappuccino #Starbucks pic.twitter.com/xvsk6QQc7M— Mary Poppins (@MaPoStormborn) July 10, 2019
A rainbow / tie dye Frappuccino?!? Starbucks is speaking my language!!!— ☆ RB ☆ (@RBtheARTISAN) July 10, 2019
Make something colorful and I’ll buy it... make something colorful AND delicious?? I’ll buy 10.
Others, however, aren’t too happy with the flavor and are disappointed about the lack of “tie-dye.”
ok so i got the tie dye frap at starbucks and it’s supposed to look like this (left) but i got it like this (right) and it tastes like actual trash lmaoo just don’t waste ur money kids pic.twitter.com/TGudam3Rto— 𝔼 ♡ (@imaaaaaagine) July 10, 2019
Tried the new tie-dye frappuccino. It looks majestically trippy... and tastes like tastes like how detergent smells. If you've ever wanted to taste something that can be described as "sugary socks" this is it. pic.twitter.com/C7lysrxvlx— Dragoneer (@Dragoneer) July 10, 2019
The new #Starbucks Tie Dye Frappuccino tastes like bland banana candy, has more sugar than you're supposed to consume in a day in every size, has a chemical aftertaste, and takes 3x the labor and ingredients to make.— Starbucks Barista Uncensored (@BaristaUncensrd) July 10, 2019
It's inconsistent and does not look like the marketing. pic.twitter.com/vg3pwLmyGH
No matter how you feel about the drink, never forget the barista that has to make the Tie-Dye Frappuccino for you.
Please.... please, please for the love of god please, be nice to your barista when this stupid tie-dye Frappuccino comes out. It’s going to be a pain to make, and it is not going to look exactly like it does in the ads.— Lillirana (@LilliranaG) July 9, 2019
Please don’t order the tie-dye frappuccino it’s gross and I don’t wanna make it.— Kierstyn Bennett (@BennettKierstyn) July 10, 2019
There’s really only one way to find out what side is correct: trying the Tie-Dye Frapp for ourselves. For science. This drink won’t be around forever, so act now if you want to join the Starbucks tie-dye movement.
