The new season of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder premiered at the beginning of this month and it's already got fans talkin'.
Like how the show accurately and directly addressed Bebe's autism.
Or about how there's an entire episode devoted to the history of Juneteenth.
Damn the proud family really did that with their Juneteenth episode. ITS BLACK HISTORY MONTH GO LEARN SOMETHING BOUT BLACK PPL THAT MAKES YOU UNCOMFORTABLE
Another thing that fans pointed out recently is how three characters from the original series received a major and important glow-up: the Chang triplets.
Here's what they looked like in the original series.
And here's what Billy, Julie, and Debbie look like in the reboot.
Fans have been praising the show and its creators for the much-needed updates not just to their designs but to their characters in general.
I'm amazed. Not only did the Chang Triplets return in "The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder", but they were given a HUGE individual glow-up and don't even look stereotypical anymore. Whoever redesigned them, thank you. ❤️#TheProudFamily #TheProudFamilyLouderAndProuder
Proud Family's production coordinator Breana Navickas even chimed in, shouting out the AAPI talent that works on the show and helps bring episodes like this to life.
@BabyLamb5 Better to give a shout out to our AAPI voices on the show like our Art Director @eastwoodwong and @_baomii, @shneenon Eric Guan, Linda Fong, and our Producer Jan Hirota :3♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
In a clip that's been circulating online, Penny is distraught at her sudden need to fill in on the debate team and she turns to the Chang triplets, asking if any of them will take her place.
Debbie even calls Penny out for asking the three of them in the first place.
The "model minority" myth Debbie refers to is the stereotype that all Asian people are inherently good students, incredible musicians, etc. In Penny's case, she assumed the Chang triplets would be interested and excel in debate team.
The show has never shied away from confronting more serious subject matter and deftly tackles the topic of prejudice between marginalized groups.
And fans were ecstatic:
Oh my goodness the Proud Family a brought back the Chang triplets and they’re not racist stereotypes anymore! They all actually have different personalities and appearances and even called out the “Model Minority myth”, which is how they were doe Iger in the original!
@Nordic_Nordic I think it’s supposed to be a nod to how the Chang triplets were kinda stereotyped smart Asians in the ogSo they changed the Changs & went “hey y’all we’re calling ourselves out! Og Changs were super model minority myth cuz they nerdy and smart, so now they’re not lol sorry” https://t.co/xXsPWAEkz7
“The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” Look at how stereotyped the Chang triplets looked and now look at them. They look amazing! This is such a step forward, thanks to the illustrators for this show. #ProudFamilyLouderAndProuder #ProudFamily
