Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is celebrating the International Day of the Girl by telling his Instagram followers to support women.

While women like Michelle Obama, Zendaya, and Karlie Kloss are recognizing the U.N.-declared Day of the Girl in the States, Trudeau is encouraging men and fathers to take part in acknowledging the strength of young girls too, like he is with his own daughter, Ella-Grace. In a photo posted to Instagram, the prime minister is seen giving up his chair for the 9-year-old, while saying it’s important to provide girls with the opportunity to chase their dreams.

“Today is about our daughters, granddaughters, sisters, and nieces,” Trudeau wrote. “It’s about making sure they grow up in a world where their voices are heard and they have the support they need to chase down their dreams.”

Some took issue with the photo, saying it was a less-than-perfect choice for the message that the prime minister is trying to spread. “You are clearly distracted with your cellphone while your daughter is in the same room. A little ironic…” one person wrote. While another said, “Lovely photo if there wasn’t a phone.”

But others have written in support of Trudeau and his positive message, saying that he depicts a “true leader” and even providing comparisons to the lack of support of women from other leaders.

“So embarrassed to be an American right now. There is an all-out assault on women,” someone wrote. “Hey, Trump, this is what a real man looks like,” said another.

Still, a majority of Trudeau’s followers are appreciating the sweet tribute to his daughter regardless of political stance.

“Stepping away from all the politics for a moment,” someone prefaced a comment, “this picture just made me smile.”
