Guys Posted a Hysterical Craiglist Ad for BBQ Dad

With Father's Day around the corner, one group of twenty-something guys from Spokane, Washington is missing their long-distance dads even more than usual. They won't be able to see their own fathers on the holiday weekend, so they came up with a solution that will allow them to get in a little father-son time anyway.

The roommates posted a hilarious Craigslist ad seeking a "generic father figure" to grill at their upcoming backyard barbecue, which will be held on Saturday, June 17 (the day before Father's Day). Qualifications listed in the now viral ad include a minimum of 18 years of parenting experience and 10 years of grilling experience. While they can't pay in cash, they're prepared to compensate this stand-in dad with all the food and cold beer he wants.

"We range in age from 21-26 and while most of know how to operate a grill, none of us are prepared to fill the role of 'BBQ Dad,'" the group wrote in the listing. "That being said, we are in need of a generic father figure. Grill for a few hours, then sit back, and crack open a few cold ones with the boys."

And these boys mean serious business! In addition to cooking burgers and hot dogs, they included detailed instructions about what applicants must do. All interested dads, for example, must refer to the guests as "Big Guy," "Sport," "Chief," and "Champ." Funny dad stories are welcome, and candidates should also be prepared to talk about typical "dad" topics like lawn mowing, building decks, and Jimmy Buffet.

Since posting the listing 15 days ago, the group of roommates has received multiple emails from potential father figures, but they haven't found the perfect match for their party just yet. "His name is Jerry but he said we can call him Dave or Bill," Dane Anderson, one of the barbecue hosts told KHQ Local News. "There was one guy Stan who sent us a message but then he stopped replying." We hope they find their dream "generic father figure" in time!
