People Are Not Happy With the Upcoming Heathers Spin-Off

The classic saying is, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” But this is Hollywood, people! Spin-offs and reboots are par for the course. The latest classic to get a fresh take is Heathers, the 1988 pitch-black cult film starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. (For the uninitiated, think of it as a homicidal predecessor to Mean Girls.) The movie is now being spun off into a TV show, set to debut on the Paramount network (formerly Spike TV) on March 7, and the trailer was released earlier this week. The new version replaced it’s titular trio of high school hot-girl bullies with members of marginalized groups: One is genderqueer, another is plus-size, and the third is a person of color. (The schoolmates who are plotting their murder are straight and white.) Social media was quick to react to the casting and story line choices. Below, see the best reactions.
