NBC premiered its latest competition series, Songland, in May. The show matches unknown song writers with some of the biggest names in the music industry in hopes of creating the next chart-topping hit. Although we're just one installment into the 11-episode series, viewers already have some strong feelings about the show.

As Songland is taking over one of the nights that The Voice previously aired on, it was fitting that the first celebrity to appear was none other than coach John Legend. After listening to Max Embers, Tebby Burrows, Sam James, and Ollie Gabriel perform their original work, John decided to dismiss Sam, and move forward with the other three writers. After the contestants worked with the producers and performed new and improved versions of their songs, the EGOT winner crowned Tebby and the track "We Need Love" the winner.

The network certainly seems to know what it's doing when it comes to singing competition shows, because people loved the debut. "I’m officially obsessed with @NBCSongland!! The entire concept of the show and the execution of it is incredible," one person tweeted. Another echoed that excitement and wrote, "I loved the premiere of #Songland great show! Love seeing the process of songwriting."

Someone else enjoyed the novelty of the series and tweeted, "What a refreshing concept and cool insight into the music industry." They also included a GIF of Adam Levine, the executive producer, who is probably pleased with all the positivity around his latest project, especially after he announced he won't be returning to The Voice for season 17.

The resounding approval from commentators only makes us more excited for next week, which will feature another huge star: Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am.
