Singer of the 'worst national anthem rendition ever' apologizes: 'By no means was this any disrespect to our country'

Move over Roseanne Barr's 1990 rendition of the National Anthem at Jack Murphy Stadium; there's a new "worst National Anthem rendition ever" in town.

Two decades after comedian Barr finally moved away from the headlines of crotch-grabbing during “The Star-Spangled Banner” and started to make headlines for calling #MeToo victims “hoes” and complaining about not being able to use a homophobic slur, baseball viewers have seemed to have forgotten the comedian's ill-fated performance. Instead, they're focusing on a recent performance by a "last minute fill-in."

On Sunday, before the game betwixt the High Point Rockers and the Sugar Land Skeeters — real team names Yahoo Lifestyle did not make up — Chuck Hayworth took to the field to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and drew criticism no human deserves.

National sports columnist Terez Owens shared a video of the event writing, "I don't even know who this guy is, but he should never sing anything ever again," as if no one else has ever awoken with a chest full of regret after a night of karaoke.

Barstool Sports, who shared footage of the song on Twitter, wrote it was "quite possibly the worst rendition of the national anthem of all time," clearly never attending a small town's graduation ceremony.

The singer in question, Rockers employee Chuck Hayworth, has since apologized on social media, explaining that he experienced cramps from overheating before he started singing.

"To all who attended the game today... my sincerest apologies. Our singer could not attend today's make up game... I stepped in but did not realize that the heat had gotten to me. My leg began to cramp [and] you saw what happened," Hayworth wrote on social media. "By no means was this disrespect to our country or our organization, nor all those who serve it."

The team also issued an apology, writing, "the rendition was not up to organizational standards."

The Rockers added, "The Rockers also believe that second chances are uniquely American and thus are offering that opportunity to the performer. Since Sunday night, numerous voice coaches have reached out to the performer and the organization, offering their services to help redeem the last-minute performer. As a result, the team will strongly consider having the performer back later in the 2019 season, based upon a consensus opinion of the voice coach, organization and performer."

However, Hayworth finished his earlier social media post with, "Needless to say they have banned me from singing it ever again..."
