People Accuse Kim Kardashian of Copying Urban Decay With Her KKW Beauty Cherry Blossom Collection

When Kim Kardashian announced her latest KKW Beauty launch, the Cherry Blossom Collection, fans were excited. But others felt the products and their theme looked prettttty similar to another cherry-inspired makeup line on the market:t he new Urban Decay Naked Cherry Series, which debuted at the end of August.

Kim shared the news of her upcoming launch on Instagram on Monday, September 10, and commenters were quick to call out the similarities between the products, Cosmopolitan reported. Both collections feature pink, bronze, and berry shades of lipsticks and eyeshadows. KKW Beauty's collection also includes three blushers and three lip liners, while UD's has two eyeliners, a face palette, and a cherry-scented setting spray.

The comments section of Kim's Instagram announcement lit up with a debate over whether or not her products had been "inspired" by Urban Decay's. "Urban Decay Cherry palette? Can she do anything original?" wrote one user, per Cosmopolitan. "How did 2 brands both come out with a cherry palette at the same time..." wondered another. "Why do people lose their minds about Kylie or Kim's makeup? It is SO boring and just copies other brands," a third commented.

Other fans jumped to her defense, though, noting that a copycat scenario is highly unlikely given that their products came out only a few weeks apart, and production would take much longer than that. "I highly doubt Kim saw Urban Decay's Cherry collection and manufactured a whole makeup collection in a week," wrote one commenter, according to Cosmopolitan. Kim also pointed out in her own Instagram post that the baby shower she threw herself for Chicago West was cherry blossom-themed — and that occurred in November 2017, several months before UD's Naked Cherry palette first popped up on our feeds.

The Kardashian-Jenners are no strangers to copycat controversy. Earlier this year, Kim was accused of copying Jean Paul Gaultier's Classique fragrance bottle with her KKW Body perfume. (In response to the allegations, Kim told Cosmopolitan that, while she appreciates the Classique bottle, her "inspiration was a statue.") On the fashion front, people accused Kim of copying Comme des Garçons x Kosho & Co. runway pieces for her children's clothing line last year. Her team told Page Six the children's items were an "homage" to the designers, and that they "intended to donate the profits from those items to charity."
