You Season 3 is officially coming, and it's all about Joe's new "arch nemesis"

This post contains spoilers for You Season 1 and Season 2.

Update, January 14th, 2020, 11 a.m. ET: Penn Badgley is off the hook for spilling the beans because Netflix has officially confirmed that we’re getting a You Season 3. Netflix posted a mini video to its Instagram account, which says “New year, New You.” But, sadly, the timeline there is a little misleading.

According to TV Line, You Season 3 won’t air until 2021. (We know, how are we supposed to wait that long?) Luckily, Joe/Will himself, Badgley, is dropping more details about the new season, and it sounds next-level.

As fans remember, Joe and also-murderous Love ended Season 2 by moving to the suburbs, where they plan to raise a baby together. But things aren’t happily ever after, just like we all suspected.

“They’re not soulmates. He’s afraid of her at the end,” Badgley told TV Line. “Basically, it’s set up for Season 3 in a way where they would be each other’s arch nemesis.”

As for parenthood? “If there’s anything that can change a person, it’s parenthood. But I don’t know that Joe can or should change. I certainly don’t know if he will change,” Badgley said.

Co-showrunners Sera Gamble and Greg Berlanti will return for You Season 3. Now we just have to figure out how we’ll pass the time until 2021.

Original post, December 30th: If you’re like us, you’re probably still peeling your jaw off the floor and loosening your grip on the couch cushion after watching You Season 2 on Netflix all weekend long. But we’ve already got news on the show’s third season for you, and it’s all thanks to Penn Badgley himself, who accidentally let slip a big secret about You Season 3 in an interview—giving us further proof that Joe and Love’s, ahem, love story is far from over.

As fans now know, Season 2 ends with a shocking bombshell that few saw coming, and Badgley himself is always keeping it real about not romanticizing the characters in the series. But in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, he talked a little more about Love and Joe’s relationship, including that crazy cliffhanger at the very end of the last episode.

When discussing that Joe has seemingly met his match in the murderous Love, Badgley fully let it slip that Season 3 is on the horizon.

Of Love being a serial killer like Joe, he said, “She doesn’t appear to be the same kind of person. She doesn’t appear to be the same kind of predator. She doesn’t appear to be the same kind of…”

He then trailed off before dropping this nugget, “you know, dare I say, in the third season—oh, god.” Attempting to backtrack, Badgley quickly said, “I literally know nothing about the third season,” which is wild given that Netflix itself has yet to confirm Season 3 is on the way.

Still, it seemed inevitable given that You author Caroline Kepnes already has a third book in the works, and a fourth book was confirmed prior to Season 2’s premiere date. It seems like the hit series will continue making us shudder for two more years to come, and we can only imagine how bonkers things might get with Joe and Love united in parenthood and the lush L.A. suburban sprawl. We truly can’t wait for it.
