Penelope Cruz wore over $500 worth of makeup for the Oscars

At the 92 annual Academy Awards, Penelope Cruz stunned in a black Chanel gown, pin-straight hair, and timeless makeup—and of course, she looked gorgeous. We were curious to find out what makeup products she used to achieve her stunning look to recreate it on ourselves, and her makeup artist, Hung Vanngo, shared that he used 20 Lancôme products to get Cruz’s Oscars 2020 makeup look. On the inspiration behind it all, he says:

Gotcha—products to enhance eyes and salmon-y lips. Done. Below, a list of all the products Vanngo used on Cruz to create her elegant beauty look.

For Penelope Cruz’s face:

First thing first: creating the base. Before applying any makeup, Vanngo prepped Cruz’s face with a sheet mask, serum, face cream, and eye cream to rehydrate and plump the skin. He explains, “By properly prepping the skin, this allows the skin to look fresh and red carpet ready.” Then, once the skincare products have completely absorbed, he used the Lancôme Prep & Hydrate Primer as an illuminating base. From there, he applied the Lancôme Rénergie Lift Makeup Foundation SPF 27 on her T-zone and gently blended outward. “She has beautiful freckles, so I didn’t want to use so much [product],” says Vanngo on his decision to not cover her entire face.

To cover up any dark circles or areas that needed color-correcting, like under the eyes and under the nose, he used the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Camouflage Concealer. Once Cruz’s complexion was set, Vanngo began to sculpt her face using the Lancôme Star Bronzer in Sunkiss around her jaw and hairline, applied the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Blur and Highlight Duo Stick in Light Pink on the high areas of her cheekbones and on the tip of her nose, and swiped the Lancôme Blush Subtil in Cedar Rose onto the apples of her cheeks.

To finish Cruz’s face makeup, he used the Lancôme Long Time No Shine Loose Setting Powder in Translucent around her jawline, forehead, and T-zone to remove any unwanted shine, then locked in the makeup with the Lancôme Fix It And Forget It Setting Spray.

For Penelope Cruz’s eyes:

“She has gorgeous brows, so I extended [them] just a little bit longer and then set with the styler,” says Vanngo on his approach to Cruz’s brows. To give them that extra touch, he used the Lancôme Brow Define Pencil and the Lancôme Sourcils Stylers.

For her eyeshadow, he used the warm, bronzy shade of the Lancôme Hypnôse 5-Color Eyeshadow Palette in Terre de Sienne, applying it to the crease of her eye, along the crease-line, and along the lower lash line. He then applied the darker brown shade to the outer corner of Cruz’s eyes, and blended it out and up. To make her eyes pop, he lined her upper and lower waterlines with the Lancôme Le Stylo Waterproof Eyeliner in Bruns Frivole. Then, using the same liner, he applied a thick line on the upper lash line and blended outward for that effortless smokey look. To wrap it up, he used the Lancôme Le Stylo Waterproof Eyeliner in Bronze Folie on the lower lash line and on the inner corner of eyes, then blended it out.

Of course, we can’t skip the lashes. To finish Cruz’s eye look, Vanngo applied two coats of the cult-classic Lancôme Hypnôse Drama mascara on her upper lashes, and used one coat on her lower lashes, too.

Ah yes, the salmon-y lip. To get her classic pout, he began by lightly lining her lips with Lancôme Le Lip Liner in Ideal, then, using a lip brush for a more precise application, he used the Lancôme L'Absolu Rouge Ruby Cream Lipstick in Coeur De Rubis on her lips. Ta-da!
