Peloton Just Recalled More Than 2 Million Bikes—Here’s What to Do If You Have One

Peloton users, it's time to halt your workouts: The company is recalling nearly 2.2 million bikes because of reports that the seat post is breaking and causing injuries.

The voluntary recall—conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission—affects the original Peloton model bikes (PL01) sold from January 2018 through May 2023 in the United States. (International models and the company's North America Bike+ are not affected.) The recall notice states: "Peloton has received 35 reports of the seat post breaking and detaching from the bike during use, including 13 reports of injuries including a fractured wrist, lacerations, and bruises due to falling from the bike."

Luckily, the solution doesn't seem too inconvenient for affected Peloton owners in the U.S. The company is offering a free replacement seat post, meaning you don't need to get a whole new bike. All you have to do is fill out a simple online form, and it'll be shipped directly to you. You can replace the part yourself by following an instructional video or PDF instructions.

So if you don't want to one-up And Just Like That's Mr. Big in a health-risk scenario that's actually related to using a Peloton, steer clear of your bike until you're able to secure a new seat post. Then you can continue your favorite exercise sessions safely!
