Peep on a Perch Is for Kids Who Can't Wait for Their Elf on the Shelf to Come Back

From Good Housekeeping

The Easter Bunny is great, but the rascally rabbit comes and goes in one night, usually without being spotted, and then it's gone for another year. Where's the fun in that?

If you want to draw out the Easter fun a little bit longer, the brand that's the biggest embodiment of all things easter, Peeps, has found a way to fill in the gaps left by the Easter Bunny. Peep on a Perch is billed as a new family tradition that amps up the positivity in your household in the weeks leading up to Easter.

Like a certain other seasonal plaything that sits on a shelf, Peep on a Perch comes with a storybook and a plush. The story explains how the Easter Peep assists the Easter Bunny every year, doing good deeds like decorating eggs and filling baskets. The Peep also sees children who are behaving well and doing nice things for others. When the Peep is perched up in a kids' bedroom, it gets a bird's-eye-view into the acts of kindness that go on in the house. Maybe, just maybe, with the Peep around, your kids will brush up on their manners and be a little extra helpful, too. (Or, at least, that's the hope.)

The good news: Unlike the Elf on the Shelf, it's definitely okay for kids to snuggle with the Peep. Touching it won't relieve it of its magic, so hug away! And there doesn't seem to be an emphasis on staging elaborate vignettes with the Peep, so it doesn't fall under the category of, "Great, another thing for me to add to my to-do list in an already busy season." (Though, of course, if you're into it, you could stage vignettes with the Peep — and probably figure out fun ways to add in other marshmallow Peeps.)

On Amazon, children mostly seem to get a kick out of the whole thing. "My boys love this book," one verified purchaser wrote, "and I love the fact they are actually being nice to each other and want to clean and help around the house because the Peep is watching them." It works! "Perfect easter gift for child who has everything," another wrote.

So, there may be just over 300 days between Ash Wednesday and Christmas, but that doesn't mean they all have to be devoid of plush, seasonal fun.
