This peanut butter is truly the ‘Good Stuff’; and it’s made in North Carolina

ASHEBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — It has long been a favorite item for lunch, but peanut butter isn’t just for kids anymore.

Lots of families have it on their grocery list every week. Now, Brad Jones discovered, there’s a much healthier version available that’s Made in North Carolina.

When you name your peanut butter “Good Stuff,” it sounds like a sales pitch, but Renee Presnell says it’s the truth. “There are a lot of peanut butters out there that are fun varieties and fun flavors but they put a lot of junk in them,” she told us, adding that “we did not want to do that.  We wanted it to be very clean and very healthy”.

Renee and her husband Larry never thought about turning peanuts into profits, until one night he was watching videos on YouTube and fell asleep. When he woke up, he saw a video of a woman making peanut butter in her kitchen and figured he could do the same. Thinking it looked like fun, he went out and bought five pounds of peanuts and started working in their kitchen.  Along the way, he broke two food processors but finally found a recipe that would work. They turned out small batches to give to family and friends so they could sample it.

One important difference is the peanuts they use; Hi Oleic Peanuts are not only a great source of protein, but they also have high levels of mono-unsaturated fat which is the good type of fat often found in avocados and olive oil. Plus, they keep it simple without adding a lot of sugar or unhealthy ingredients. Most people start by tasting the smooth or crunchy versions. But the real surprise comes when they try the other ones.

Renee says their biggest seller is Cinnamon Roll Crunch, which has a dash of cinnamon.  She says it goes great with a slice of apple, celery or oats. Their Choco Mocha flavor adds a hint of coffee flavor, and it’s a great addition to a bowl of ice cream. The last one might be the biggest surprise of all though. Spicy Kick brings the heat with the flavor of jalapeno and habanero peppers. The Asheboro couple says people love it on sourdough bread or as flavoring in Thai food. It’s not too hot though, just a little heat with a savory flavor.

While the variety of tastes may be a surprise for customers, the Presnells say the ingredients shouldn’t be. They know shoppers are looking for better nutrition for themselves and their kids.

“We want them to eat healthy, that’s the important thing,” Renee says. “I think more people are educated on healthy fats; more people are looking for it and there really is a demand for that now, so our peanut butter provides that for them.”

That’s why Larry and Renee focused on all the details, ingredients and processes, to make sure that Good Stuff peanut butter really is the best stuff around!
