No job's too big, no pup is too small!

If you've had a child in the last decade or so then you probably aren't a stranger to the adorable pack of pups deemed the PAW Patrol. Following their first major motion picture in 2021, the pups are making their way back to the big screen in a new film, PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie.

Although its predecessor was rated G, PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie has received a PG rating. If you're wondering if the movie is okay for the littlest of your litter, let's break it down.

What's the Pups' Latest Adventure?

When a giant meteor crashes into Adventure City, giving the pups superpowers—we are introduced to the PAW Patrol, "more, with just a little bit extra". The PAW Patrol becomes the Mighty Pups and they are tasked with saving the city once again from meteor-loving "mad scientist" Victoria Vance and Mayor Humdinger. They want to steal the pups' crystals to turn themselves into supervillains.

Though the focus of this movie is one pup in particular, we get to witness plenty of the pack's personality as they figure out how to use their powers to continue to be of service to their city. With new powers, vehicles, and upgraded suits to go with them, the Mighty Pups take us on a rollercoaster of adventure that kept my entire family entertained from beginning to end.

Is 'PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie' OK For My Child?

So what's up with the PG rating? As I mentioned the first movie was rated G, and the TV show is geared toward preschoolers.

The Motion Picture Association rated PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie PG for "mild action/peril." I wasn't particularly worried about the PG rating going into the movie. But I took my almost 9, 6, and 2-year-old along with me to the screening so that I could have a few different perspectives and see where the movie ranked with them.

I will fully disclose that we are a Marvel/superhero movie family so I didn't worry about my boys being scared and they both loved the movie. I can't lie and say that I wasn't shocked that PAW Patrol managed to keep my 8-year-old engaged, but the movie has just enough action and funny one-liners to keep his attention.

My daughter is 2 years old and I was the most invested in her reaction with her being our newest and smallest PAW Patrol fan. She is no stranger to the movies but more often than not she walks the aisles, asks to leave the theater, and mom or dad ends up missing part of the movie.

With a run time of a little over 90 minutes and equipped with popcorn and fruit snacks, my daughter made it through the entire movie without leaving the theater once. There are a few scenes that get a little dark, but she wasn't phased by them and was very interested in what was happening on screen the entire time. The biggest reaction the movie got out of her was actually when one of the pups was out of bed when they shouldn't have been. Go figure!

In terms of action if you have an anxious or sensitive kiddo the opening scene of the movie does involve a fire and some business owners getting locked into a building (but saved), and the scientist Victoria Vance does get a little "mad" during the movie. There is also a brief moment towards the end (spoiler alert!) when one of the pups seems to die but they pick up quickly enough for most kids to not feel any true distress.

The movie takes us on a heartwarming adventure that shows that even the smallest souls can make a huge impact. There are lessons on family, teamwork, and perseverance that will resonate with even the youngest viewers. PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie is funny, entertaining, and "just the little bit extra" that your family will fall in love with on the big screen.

And like Adventure City news anchor Sam Stringer playfully reminded us, be ready to get in on the Mighty Pups merch. Your kids are for sure going to have some on their holiday wishlists!
