  • Christie Brinkley and Paulina Porizkova joined forces to bring their pro-aging energy to the Aspen Ideas Festival.

  • In sharing photos from the event, Porizkova thanked Brinkley for “making aging look fun.”

  • Both former supermodels are paving the way to a more accepting, joyful aging experience for women of the future.

We know Christie Brinkley and Paulina Porizkova to be pro-aging icons in their own rights. Put them in the same room together, and they become unstoppable. The pair recently attended the Aspen Ideas Festival, where they led panel discussion on aging and had thought-provoking conversation about how getting older is changing—in a good way.

On Instagram, both supermodels shared photos from their time together alongside Canadian model Yasmin Warsame, 46, who also participated in the panel. Their captions reflected on the empowering experience. “Long live the sisterhood. Thank you Christie for making aging look fun and being an eternal ray of sunshine, Yasmin for your vulnerability and strength of talking about starting over and reinventing yourself, ” Porizkova wrote. “United, we can’t be ignored 😁.”

Brinkley, 68, shared more photos from the festival. “Thank you to the @aspenideas Festival for giving us old broads 😜 an opportunity to remind women that aging in America ain’t what it used to be , but it’s not quite yet where it needs to be!” she wrote. “We offered up a few suggestions that we hope will help take the fear out of aging and emphasize the advantages our generation has enjoyed. Thanks largely to innovation and information we can access what keeps us feeling damn good!”

Neither Porizkova nor Brinkley are ones to stay quiet when approached with the stigma around aging in their own personal lives. For instance, in a February Instagram, Brinkley called out ageism in the media and Hollywood. “The subtle constant categorizing of women by age, making us feel like we are approaching some exponential expiration date gnaws away at one’s confidence,” she wrote. “Even the expression ‘aging gracefully’ should not be about one’s looks but about the attitude and energy one offers the world.”

Porizkova is constantly speaking out about embracing herself at 57, whether that’s defending her decision to wear a bikini in spite of trolls calling her too “old and ugly,” or striking important conversation about how language around aging matters. In an April Instagram, the new author explained how the word “still” perpetuates ageism.

“CAN WE PLEASE DO AWAY WITH THE ‘STILL’?! A ‘still’ is like a ‘but.’ One ruins a compliment, the other ruins an apology,” she wrote. “You only use the word ‘still’ when you’re referring to something you believe this person has lost. ‘You can still run. You can still play the piano.’ Never ‘You can still read. You are still smart.’”

She continued: “Next time you’re tempted to insert a ‘still’ - take a moment, and don’t.”

With their determination and fierceness, Porizkova and Brinkley have inspired the masses to unlearn what they know about aging and instead, simply embrace living life. And that is exactly why we love them.
