Paulina Porizkova Celebrated Her 55th Birthday With A Candid Bikini Instagram Post

From Women's Health

  • Supermodel Paulina Porizkova celebrated her 55th birthday with a bikini Instagram.

  • The post came with a body positive message about aging and gratitude.

  • The Sports Illustrated model didn't start working out until she was 40, but now loves dance and pilates.

The original supermodel Paulina Porizkova turned 55 on April 9, and she celebrated her birthday with both a bikini pic and body positivity message on Instagram.

She admitted that though she is a well-known model with multiple magazine covers to her name, she didn't always feel good about her body. "I’m now 55, and I have gone through half a lifetime only liking the way I look in retrospect," she wrote in the caption of her post. "I look at old photos and realize how good I had it. So today, I am looking at myself, (in an admittedly flattering photo) and think, ' hey, I'm a good 55 year old! '"

She committed to embracing her age and basking in gratitude during self-quarantine amid the COVID-19 pandemic. "I will feel pretty today. And endlessly grateful for all the gifts life has bestowed on me thus far. They’ve been many. Quarantine is a great time to sift through them all," she added.

The Sports Illustrated model looks super fit at 55, but Paulina told ELLE she didn't start working out until she turned 40. Before that, she relied on "cigarettes and poor nutrition" to stay thin, while her fellow '80s icon Cindy Crawford always worked out. "When I did Dancing with the Stars is when I realized that exercise does actually change your body," she told the magazine. "I was just turning 40 and I was like, 'Wow, this is cool. I can actually have an effect on my body. It doesn't have to go to hell.' I started so late that my body had no previous knowledge of muscle."

Now, she still dances, but she mixes it up with workout classes like Nofar Method Pilates.

"You name it, I've done it. Except for running," she told ELLE. "I don't like running. It doesn't feel good to me. It feels bad on my knees. I'd rather do Zumba. And Bollywood dancing is a great way to get the aerobic part done. I do some really hard rowing classes."

Happy birthday, Paulina!
