  • Paulina Porizkova says she hopes to “represent a woman” her age by posting filter-free photos.

  • The 57-year-old opened up in a new interview on Red Table Talk about the pushback she still gets on social media for embracing her age.

  • The model admitted she still feels very insecure when modeling and she often compares herself to her younger days.

Paulina Porizkova is well known for sharing makeup-free selfies, naked no-filter snaps, and other encouraging images to celebrate her aging body. The 57-year-old has often said she’s “not ready to be dismissed,” and is at the forefront of conversations about women accepting aging. In a recent interview, she revealed why going filter-free is so important to her and what moments she still feels insecure.

In a conversation with Jada Pinkett Smith, her daughter Willow, and her mother Grammy on their series Red Table Talk, Porizkova opened up about why she has chosen to go filter-free in the images she puts out into the world and the importance of owning her age just as she is.

“I make a point of not using filters ever because that’s kind of my thing. I, you know, am trying to represent a woman my age, 57, without filters,” she said in the interview.

Porizkova explained that she wants to be an inspiration for other women who can see she ages just like them and that it’s acceptable to love yourself for who you are. “I am so delighted when I see a woman my age that looks like I do. Like, ‘Oh look, you have the same wrinkles’ or ‘you have the same little weird wobbly bits here,’” she said pulling down on the skin between her chin and neck. “And I find it beautiful on them, so I’m kind of hoping to do for other women what some of those women do for me.”

When Smith asked Porizkova how she finally got comfortable in her own skin, the model quickly responded, “I am not comfortable with it. I’m still, like, struggling with it on a daily basis. And I think that that’s kind of where a lot of women fall.”

She continued, “I have forehead wrinkles, and I have wrinkles here, and all the stuff that comes with being lucky enough to live to 57.”

But it’s not as easy as it may seem to post filter-free images on social media. “It’s kind of a precarious balance because we’re in the public eye all the time and people will take potshots at you constantly,” She admitted.

In fact, Porizkova revealed in the interview that she still receives a lot of hate on her social media accounts for presenting herself as she is. “The amount of ‘Hey Grandma’ that I get, it’s plenty,” she said. “It hurts my ego a little bit, but at the same time, isn’t that part of the beauty of becoming older? That we acquire more confidence because we know who we are, and we’re a little easier with telling people to just piss off.”

The model did reveal that though the response to her photos may hit her ego, the times she feels the most insecure are while doing the very thing that she’s known for. “The moments that I feel the least secure about myself is when I am modeling. One day of modeling will set me back, like, confidence-wise, like, a few months at least,” she admitted.

Though Porizkova has been modeling for 42 years, she admitted that she is sometimes taken aback by her photos and is still coming to terms with how she looks at 57. “I’m just kind of used to stepping in from of the camera, and then I see the pictures, and I go ‘Whoa. Wait, this is not how I remember looking the last time I did it,’” she said. “And so, it’s just the comparisons between, like, what I remember myself as and then, you know, being faced with the reality of what I look like now.”

This isn’t the first time Porizkova has revealed she often compares herself to others. She recently shared in an Instagram photo she often feels “shame” and “comparison,” and she regularly calls out anti-aging culture on her social media accounts. Plus, she reveals even more in her new memoir No Filter: The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful, which we can’t wait to dive into this holiday season!
