Paul Bettany to Reportedly Play Prince Philip
Avengers star Paul Bettany is reportedly in talks to play Prince Philip in season three of The Crown, Netflix's popular series about Elizabeth II.
Actor Matt Smith played the role of the Duke of Edinburgh in seasons one and two, which are both currently available to stream on Netflix, but the show is being entirely recast for season three. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Bettany is "near a deal" to follow in Smith's footsteps.
It was already announced that Broadchurch actress Olivia Colman will play the Queen, and rumors are all but confirmed that Helena Bonham Carter will be taking over for Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret.
That said, Netflix has yet to confirm the news regarding both Carter and Bettany.
While a premiere date for season three has yet to be announced, it is assumed it will drop near the end of 2018. We'll be sure to update this post as soon as we know more.
