The Broadway legend requested a cameo on the series.

Patti LuPone is a Broadway legend, but she was allegedly denied a cameo on a TV musical.

In a new interview with Mashable, she revealed that she requested to appear in the first season of Apple TV+ series Schmigadoon!, but was rejected.

"I wanted to be in Schmigadoon!, and I was too old," she said. When asked to elaborate, LuPone explained, "Exactly what I said. We reached out to them and said I want to be in Schmigadoon!. They said, 'Sorry, You're too old.'"

"It's so sad. And it's depressing," added the 74-year-old. "It's their loss! I don't know what else to say. I so wanted to be in it!"

As Mashable pointed out, LuPone is the same age as Martin Short, who has a supporting role on the show. Though the publication asked Apple TV+ for comment, the streaming service has yet to respond to LuPone's claims.

The series, which premiered in July 2021, features other Broadway veterans, including Kristin Chenoweth, Aaron Tveit, and Patrick Page. The show follows struggling couple Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) and Melissa (Cecily Strong), who become trapped in the mysterious, magical titular town until they find true love.

It takes inspiration from classic musicals, including The Music Man, Cabaret, Les Misérables, The Sound of Music, and Pippin.

Its second season premiered on April 5, taking place in a different, darker town: Schmicago. It features references to Chicago, Sweeney Todd, Hair, and other edgier musicals.

Though LuPone didn't get cast in Schmigadoon!, she stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix in Ari Aster's film Beau is Afraid. The movie is currently in theaters.
