Pattern lovers Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel's anti-maximalist bedroom is not at all what we expected

New Girl actress Zooey Deschanel and Property Brother Jonathan Scott are living all our maximalist design fantasies – in every room but one: their bedroom.

Followers of the couple may already know all about their Gerard Colcord-designed Georgian revival in Brentwood, Los Angeles – the majority of which celebrates audacious colors and over-indulgent prints in all their glory. However, while they may be synonymous with bold decorating choices, there is always an exception to the rule.

'A lot of people put so much energy into renovating their entertaining spaces, their living rooms, family rooms, kitchens – and all of those spaces – but they forget about the importance of the space where you need to recharge your batteries,' Jonathan says.

The W Network star shared a look behind his 'zen vibe' bedroom – featuring therapeutic white paint, blushing soft pink furnishings, and a notable lack of pattern and print – especially compared to the rest of their home. We wanted it to be incredibly calm,' he explains in the footage below.

While Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel have embraced the 'anti-modern' decor trend in their sociable rooms (such as their kitchen below), their pared back bedroom is a stark contrast. It exhibits a sleek neutral bedroom color palette, minimal bedroom window treatments, and only a handful of curated furnishings and accessories.

The more peaceful space is designed with sleep in mind; however, despite its modernity, it still pays homage to their home's roots in an unexpected way.

'This is actually almost a replica of the original bedroom. It's the location of the original bedroom, but I raised the roof quite a bit,' Jonathan says. The designer also rebuilt a replica of the original window, complete with intricate cove details.

'Little details like that are so important to us because this is such a historically relevant home that we wanted to make sure we were paying homage to what Gerard Colcord had originally done,' he explains.

'When you see the vibe in here, it's all about relaxation. I need it when I'm running 18 construction projects at a time and the rest.'

In the footage, Jonathan also shared where some of his furniture came from, inducing some pieces from his own Scott Living collection, designed with Property Brothers counterpart Drew.

His mattress is a Scott Living adjustable base model 'because nothing's better than having that when you're in bed lifting yourself up.'

He also chose one of his Drew and Jonathan Home by Christian rugs and Beautiful Scott Living by Smith Noble window coverings that he uses throughout the house. 'They add a little bit of warmth and just break up the walls with a little texture,' he says

And, when they look this good, we're equally tempted to invest.
