Patrick Mahomes is sending his support to the Kansas City community.

Following reports of a shooting that occurred during the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory parade in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, on Wednesday, Feb. 14, the star quarterback took to social media to speak out about the day's terrifying events.

"Praying for Kansas City...🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼," the 28-year-old athlete wrote on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the incident on Wednesday.

Mahomes later reposted a tweet from his teammate Drue Tranquill, who wrote, "Please join me in prayer for all the victims in this heinous act. Pray that doctors & first responders would have steady hands & that all would experience full healing."

Mahomes' wife, Brittany Mahomes, also shared a message on Wednesday, writing via her Instagram Story, "Shooting people is never the answer 😔 Praying for Kansas City & America in general, this is rough 😣."

In a follow-up Story, the mom of two added, "Highly embarrassed and disappointed in this, Super Bowl wins will never be the same because of this, it's devastating."

"Lives lost and people injured during something that was supposed to be a celebration," she added, calling the events "horrible and traumatizing. So many prayers going to the families involved 😔"

Local police confirmed that shots were fired around 2 p.m. local time, shortly after the Super Bowl LVIII victory celebration was wrapping up. "Multiple people were struck," Kansas City police said in a statement on X.

Three suspects were taken into police custody and the situation is still under investigation.

Law enforcement officials are unsure of the number of victims at this point, though Kansas City Police chief Stacey Graves confirmed in a press conference that it could be "upwards of 10-15" people who were injured. She confirmed that at least one person was killed.

Graves said she did not have information about the condition of the victims, who were transported to three hospitals, including one children's hospital.

"I am angry at what happened today," Graves said during the presser, adding, "The people who came to this celebration should expect a safe environment,"

In the hours following the incident, the Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement via X, which read, "We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside of Union Station at the conclusion of today's parade and rally."

"Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and all of Kansas City," the statement continued. "We are in close communication with the Mayor's office as well as the Kansas City Police Department."

"At this time, we have confirmed that all of our players, coaches, staff and their families are safe and accounted for. We thank the local law enforcement officers and first responders who were on-scene to assist," the message concluded.
