Patrick Mahomes and His Girlfriend, Brittany Matthews, Have Been Dating Since High School

From Good Housekeeping

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes broke onto the NFL scene with a bang in 2017, when he was the first round draft pick for the Midwestern team. He became the starting quarterback for the Chiefs in 2018 before going on to become the league's MVP that season.

Considering all the success he's had so far, it's not surprising that Patrick and his team are now competing in Super Bowl LIV. Also not surprising? The fact that his girlfriend of nearly eight years (and his biggest fan), Brittany Matthews, will be there cheering him on from the sidelines.

As you settle in to watch the Chiefs take on the 49ers in Sunday's big game, here's a look at everything we know about Patrick and Brittany's sweet love story.

They met in high school.

Yes, Patrick and Brittany are high school sweethearts! The couple grew up in Whitehouse, Texas, where they both attended Whitehouse High School.

They started dating when Patrick was a sophomore and Brittany was a junior, and they've been together ever since.

Brittany is also an athlete.

After graduating from Whitehouse High, Brittany went on to play soccer at the nearby University of Texas campus in Tyler. Upon completing her bachelor's degree in kinesiology, she signed on to play professional soccer for UMF Afturelding/Fram in Iceland. She won a league championship there before moving to Kansas City, where Patrick was living after being picked 10th by the Chiefs in the NFL draft, sometime in late 2017.

Brittany no longer plays soccer professionally, but she uses her athleticism in a new and different way: Also a certified personal trainer, Brittany sells workout programs on her website, Brittany Lynne Fitness.

They recently bought a house in Kansas City and now live there full-time.

In 2019, Patrick and Brittany dropped $1.925 million on a home in Kansas City's Mission Hills neighborhood. They renovated the home with the help of an interior designer — even adding a special closet for Patrick's sneaker collection — and live there now with their two pit bulls, Steel and Silver.

"Setting down roots in Kansas City was huge for us," Patrick told Bleacher Reporter during a video tour of his and Brittany's home. "I think the people are what we love the most about Kansas City. We're trying to be here for a long, long time."

Brittany is Patrick's biggest cheerleader.

It's no secret that Brittany loves to cheer on her boyfriend's team: She's become known for live-tweeting every Kansas City Chiefs game from the sidelines and posting photos of her Chiefs-themed outfits to Instagram.

Brittany confirmed on Thursday that she was, indeed, heading to Super Bowl LIV, so be sure to keep an eye out for her on the sidelines on Sunday.

They aren't in any rush to get married.

Patrick and Brittany have been together for nearly eight years now, from their early days in high school to today in Kansas City. But as Brittany pointed out in an Instagram post from their seventh anniversary last March, you won't see them rushing to get married any time soon.

"To everyone that's gonna ask when we are getting married, the answer is whenever we want," she wrote in the caption.
