Patrick Dempsey Predicts His Kids’ Reactions to His ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ Win & Yeah, That Checks Out

It’s official, ladies and gents! Patrick Dempsey has been dubbed Sexiest Man Alive by People, and readers have one question: “How the hell did it take this long?” He was “McDreamy” (aka Dr. Derek Sheperd on Grey’s Anatomy) after all.
And while fans worldwide are happily freaking out, singing the silver fox’s praises, Dempsey said his kids will likely have different feelings. He’s predicting that his 21-year-old daughter Talula and his 16-year-old twin boys Darby and Sullivan — who he shares with wife Jillian Frank — will now troll him for eternity.

“[They’re] just going to make fun of me and pick on me and figure out every reason why I shouldn’t be,” the Made of Honor star told People. “Which is good, they keep me young.”
I mean … fair. It’s basically in the Child Code of Conduct to make fun of their parents. Especially if they go ahead and do something as embarrassing as winning Sexiest Man Alive. No kid wants to know that the world thinks their father is a DILF.
Dempsey told People in 2016 that he is “constantly amazed” by his kids’ insights and observations. Although we imagine the upcoming observations — meant to poke at his ego — will be the exception to the rule.
“It’s fascinating and fun to come up with answers to their questions,” he told the outlet at the time. “And the questions are getting harder!”
So how will he answer the Big Q of, “Dad, how the hell did you win?!”
That’s a toughy. But at least Dempsey is no stranger to his kids’ [totally normal] unimpressed personas. In 2019, he told ET that the three are known to make fun of him and don’t let him take himself too seriously. Again, he called their actions a “good” thing.
“I mean, I’m just Dad, so … either you’re ‘Cool Dad’ or not.”
Or you’re the dad that the world decided is the sexiest alive. And that is, well, a hard one for any kid to confront. Because … ick.
And so while we congratulate Dempsey on this major win, we have to give our condolences to Talula, Darby, and Sullivan. Hopefully you three can continue to troll him. Because we have to imagine that if you don’t laugh, you’ll [understandably] cry.
