Pat McGrath Has Been Quietly Using Her Newest Product on Celebrities for Weeks

Pat McGrath Labs announced its latest product on Wednesday morning — but it's new only to us regular folk.

The Dramatique Mega Lip Pencil ($29) does the job of both a pencil and lipstick, thanks to its defined tip and creamy formula. "It's the performance of a lipstick but then the convenience of a jumbo pen," the renowned makeup artist said on a call with press while previewing the product. It'll be available on May 31 on the Pat McGrath Labs site and on June 7 at select retailers, like Sephora.

But a lucky few have already tried it out: McGrath has secretly been using it on her celebrity clients for at least a few weeks: She revealed she incorporated the Dramatique Mega Lip Pencil into Naomi Campbell's, Gwendoline Christie's and Tyla's looks for the 2024 Met Gala.

The latest from Pat McGrath Labs comes in 12 intensely saturated colors, and is remarkably easy to blend. McGrath explained that she wanted to offer both classic colors and punchy, neon tints in the new assortment so that there would be a lot of room for play and customization. "You can play and you don't have to be Leonardo da Vinci... everyone doesn't have that touch," she joked.

One of her favorite ways to wear the lip pencil is as a '90s-inspired, ombré effect, like what she did on Campbell for the Met Gala. "Start by outlining your lips with a darker-colored pencil and blend the pigment into the center of the lips using your finger," McGrath later wrote Fashionista over e-mail. "Then, apply a second brighter or lighter color to the middle of your lips, and use your fingers to blend the pigment into the darker shade. This helps create a seamless transition between the two hues."
