Passengers Startled After Snake Spotted in San Jose International Airport

The idea of traveling may sound like a lot of fun, but it's also a lot of work. In fact, many people find traveling on planes downright stressful! Between keeping up with the airlines' schedules and getting through the long security line, there's a lot to think about before you enjoy your destination.

If you're flying with pets, there's even more to prepare for! As far as everyone knows, though, no one had a pet snake in the San Jose Mineta International Airport on Tuesday, September 12. Somehow, a small snake made its way into the baggage claim area of the airport, startling a number of passengers.

As NBC Bay Area reports, one traveler even took a video of the wild reptile encounter in the airport. It's definitely one of the last things people would expect to see while picking up their bags after a flight!

OMG! It's such a relief that the small snake didn't cause any problems, but it's still a close call. Someone could have been bitten if they stepped near the snake while in a rush!

Even if that had happened, though, not much would've happened. Not only is the snake on the smaller side, it's non-venomous, too. Many species of garter snakes are local to California's Bay Area, and they aren't threatening to humans or pets. In the rare chance a bite ever does occur, the worst it can do is cause an infection. It sounds minor, but it's still worth a trip to the veterinarian or doctor to keep the wound clean and healthy.

Fortunately, the small snake in the San Jose airport was located quickly on Tuesday. No one could wrangle the snake at the time, but officials caught and released the wild animal outside early Wednesday morning. Phew!
