Passenger Rescued After Falling From Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship

A passenger aboard a Royal Caribbean Cruise had to be rescued after falling off the 10th deck of the ship this past weekend, according to new reports.

Per a statement from the U.S. Coast Guard, officials were alerted that a 42-year-old American woman fell overboard a cruise ship headed to Willemstad, Curacao, some 27 nautical miles south of Punta Cana, at about 5:44 p.m. on Sunday, June 25–just days after OceanGate's Titan submersible was confirmed to have imploded, making it an extraordinarily tough weekend for rescuers.

Miraculously, the unnamed passenger was located and brought back to the cruise liner, where she was later transferred to the local hospital upon arriving at the trip's destination.

"The passenger was recovered alive and reported to be in good health, after reportedly falling into the water from [the] 10th deck of the ship," the Coast Guard said in a statement. "No medical evacuation of the passenger was requested by the cruise ship. The passenger was being kept on the cruise ship’s medical facility and later transferred to the Hospital in Willemstad, Curacao for evaluation."

In a separate statement shared with NBC News reporters on Wednesday, June 28, the cruise line brand confirmed that a passenger vacationing aboard The Mariner of the Seas cruise ship fell overboard in waters outside the Dominican Republic on Sunday.

"The ship and crew immediately reported the incident to local authorities and began searching for the guest. Thankfully, the guest was successfully recovered and was brought on board. Our Care team is now offering assistance and support to them and their traveling party. Out of privacy for the guest and their family, we have no additional details to share," the statement concluded.

Royal Caribbean later confirmed to numerous outlets that the ship could continue its voyage safely and as planned.
