Party City Is Selling a "Ghosted" Halloween Costume

I feel attacked.

Halloween presents a yearly opportunity to let your creativity fly. You can get your entire squad together to recreate your favorite TV posse, embrace your fantasies via endless makeup ideas, or give in to your nightmares with all things spooky. And now, there’s a way to dress up as an IRL dating nightmare, thanks to Party City’s “ghosted” costume.

As noted by Mashable, the popular party store is currently selling a “ghosted” dress — and not the supernatural kind. Yep, this costume is a witty nod to the term “ghosting,” AKA when someone you’ve been talking to just randomly disappears and never responds to a text again. (Poof, they're a ghost.)

The dress itself is kind of shaped like the ghost emoji; it’s white with a jagged hemline, contains short sleeves, and comes with an attached hood. The front of the outfit displays five unanswered text bubbles, beginning with “See you tonight?😘.” (You can probably guess how the rest of the text "thread" plays out from there. Hint: it doesn't have a happy ending.)

People took notice of the costume after Twitter user @arieella_ shared a picture of the outfit from Party City’s website. Needless to say, the rest of the internet soon reacted exactly how you might expect. Some people found the whole thing hilarious, while others took it a little personally. “Why would I want this as a costume when it’s already every day IRL?” one Twitter user quipped. Another just said, “Me, 24/7.” And one person found a particularly useful idea for the costume by sending it to the person that’s actually ghosting them. (The kicker? They didn’t write back.)

If you’re inclined to dress up as a real-life horror story this Halloween, you can get the ghosted costume at Party City for $24.99. And hey, maybe it’s a good way to have the last laugh if you’re (still) waiting for that text back.
