Park City Mountain Resort To Auction 15 Gondola Cabins For Charity

Park City Mountain Resort, Utah, announced yesterday that it would sell 15 of the retiring Red Pine Gondola cars next month in an auction benefitting the EpicPromise Employee Foundation.

Park City Mountain Resort is undergoing the replacement of Red Pine's old gondola cars with new ones -- Sigma Diamond C8S155 cars -- making the old cars available for auction. Last week, The Park Record reported that the new Red Pine cars would be available for sightseeing use this Friday, June 30th.

The EpicPromise Employee Foundation, the organization set to receive funds from the 15-gondola car auction, supports Vail Resorts employees through hardship grants and educational scholarships.

Hardship grants require applications, providing up to $5,000 in tax-free funds to Vail Resorts employees suffering "an unplanned hardship event, such as a medical issue, home disaster or other unforeseen and significant financial burden."

Keep in mind, though; these are gondola cars, not chairlifts. They weigh a staggering 800 pounds, and if you win one in the auction, you'll need to pick it up yourself. Those without access to a big rig, which unfortunately includes me, need not apply.

As there are more than 15 retiring Red Pine gondola cars, Park City is holding multiple gondola car auctions alongside the EpicPromise Employee Foundation auction. Other benefitting organizations include the Early Childhood Alliance and the Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History.
