Parents Accidentally Buy Kids $10,000 Worth of Disney+ Gift Cards

A TikTok user has gone viral after her parents purchased $10,000 worth of gift cards for them to go to Disney World—or at least they thought they did. Because, in reality, the couple purchased $10 grand worth of Disney+ streaming gift cards.

Within the past day, a TikTok video detailing the Disney debacle has attracted 1.3 million views. And it isn't difficult to see why.

"In 2020, my parents were planning a big family trip, but the pandemic happened," Andie wrote in overlain text as she sat silently in the video. "We finally planned it for this Christmas. All 16 of my family members are going."

She explained that to "save some money," her parents bought $10,000 of Disney gift cards to purchase park tickets and restaurant reservations.

"I went home this weekend, and they were having problems loading the gift cards correctly and purchasing the tickets," she shared.

That's when the video showed the camera a giant stack of Disney+ gift cards.

"Yup. We have 10K of Disney Plus Streaming services," she wrote, noting it translates to more than 70 years' worth of access.

"We need help. It's not about the money! It's about getting the money in the right form. We leave in 6 days and the parks are selling out of tickets because it's Christmas," she explained.

Andie added, "My Mom is distraught, Dad frustrated, and the kids worried we won't get to get into Disney. Anyone know of someone who can help?!"

Folks in the comments were less than empathetic for the situation.

One TikTok user wrote, "Ok but you don’t get to blame Disney for this 🤣 it clearly says Disney + and “Stream” in big letters lmao."

Another person commented, "I’m struggling with the thought process behind buying $10k in gift cards just to then buy tickets. It makes no sense. Just. Buy. Tickets."

Yet another commenter wrote, "Y'all were going on a $10,000 vacation and waited until the week before to buy tickets?"

Meanwhile, someone else commented, "I'm not in the right tax bracket to feel empathy for this situation I don't think."

In subsequent updates, Andie explained that her parents are 78 and don't use streaming services—so they were unfamiliar with Disney+. She also shared they couldn't simply return the gift cards because they already scratched off the codes. Currently, they are attempting to contact a gift card manager at Disney to (hopefully) help them sort out their $10,000 in Disney+ gift cards once and for all.
