The Parent Trap Cast Reunited for the First Time in 22 Years, and It Was Perfect

The Parent Trap cast haven't all been together for about 22 years—until now. On Monday, July 20, Lindsay Lohan, Dennis Quaid, Elaine Hendrix (Meredith Blake), Lisa Ann Walter (Chessy), Simon Kunz (Martin), director Nancy Meyers, and writer-producer Charles Shyer joined Katie Couric on Instagram to share their memories of the 1998 film.

“After chatting with @nmeyers during an IG Live - we decided that we should try and see if we could pull off getting the Parent Trap gang back together again for the first time since 1998 -- and guess what, we really did it!!!@lindsaylohan, @dennisquaid, @lisaannwalter, #SimonKunz, and @elaine4animals join writer-director @nmeyers and writer-producer #CharlesShyer to share their memories from filming, reenact their favorite scenes and discuss the film’s lasting impact,” Couric wrote on Instagram. “PS: With COVID-19 continuing to ravage the globe, we all decided to use this reunion as an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for @wckitchen - @chefjoseandres organization that is helping feed those in need all across the world. You can donate $10 by 📲 texting PARENT to 80100 or by going to wck.org/parenttrap (link 🔗 in my bio!)❤️ #parenttrapreunion #wereallydidit.”

Honestly, it was so great to see the whole gang together again—though bittersweet given Natasha Richardson's absence. (The actor, who played Hallie and Annie's mom in the film, tragically died after a skiing accident in 2009.) “Natasha had such an elegance and grace and she was so maternal to me,” Lohan said. Quaid said she “transmitted joy" on the set during filming.

Hendrix recalled how cold she was filming the famous scene in which the girls leave Meredith out on a raft and also talked about the internet's love for her character. “There's a whole generation that thinks Meredith is ‘hashtag’ goals,” she said. “Meredith is getting her due.” We also learned that Kunz originally auditioned for a much smaller part, but when Meyers and Shyer saw him, they knew he had to be Martin. Thank goodness.

When asked about their favorite scenes, Lohan mentioned the car ride with her and Quaid after he picks her up from camp, and the two even reenacted it all these years later. Lohan said it didn't feel like “work” at all, even though it was her first movie. “I was like a pig in sh*t. I was really excited,” she recalled. And, yes, Lohan still remembers that iconic handshake.
