And the Oscar for Best Picture Goes to…

First, it was Parasite. Then, it was Nomadland. And now, the Academy just honored another lucky film with the most highly coveted award.

Tonight, the 94th annual Oscars took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. During the ceremony, CODA took home the statuette for Best Picture 2022.

The movie beat out Belfast, Don’t Look Up, Dune, Drive My Car, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog and West Side Story.

The Academy Award for Best Picture has been around since the Oscars debuted in 1929. The statuette is given to the producer(s)—not the cast. Last year’s award went to Nomadland, which was up against The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Mank, Minari, Promising Young Woman, Sound of Metal and The Trial of the Chicago 7.

Other previous winners include Parasite, Green Book, The Shape of Water, Moonlight (not La La Land), Spotlight, Birdman, 12 Years a Slave, Argo, The Artist, The King’s Speech, The Hurt Locker, Slumdog Millionaire, No Country for Old Men, The Departed, Crash, Million Dollar Baby, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Chicago.

Producer Steven Spielberg (Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan) currently holds the record for most nominations in this category, with a total of ten.

And even better than CODA winning? There was no Moonlight/La La Land mix-up.
