BECKLEY, WV (WVNS)– People from near and far all came together on Saturday, May 11, 2024 to celebrate all things strange, spooky and spectacular!

The annual convention was announced by the Appalachian Paranormal Arts and Culture Collective. Lovers of the supernatural all gathered at the Raleigh Playhouse and Theatre in Beckley for a chance to celebrate their passion for all things paranormal.

Vendors, authors, artists and business owners were there to share all their work and cool collections with the public.

One author, Janette Quackenbush, has traveled all over Appalachia to learn and write about the interesting ghost stories and folklore in the area.

“It’s so nice to be around like-minded people who like the same things that I do. The people that are interested in the paranormal, folklore and ghost stories- it’s great to have something in common with both the people that come here and also the vendors,” said Quackenbush.

Psychics, mind readers and tarot card readers were also there to make some spooky predictions. David Jervis is a tarot card reader with Smokey Wisdom Tarot from McDowell County, who said he’s always loved the paranormal.

“I got into it just a little over ten years ago, and I’ve always been interested in paranormal stuff,” said Jervis.

The organizer of the event, Scott Worley, said he loves bringing the community together for this event every year.

“Really it’s just a chance for all of us to get together and get out into the public and really show off what we do,” said Worley.

General admission was only ten dollars, and the convention ran from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
