Pamela Anderson is feeling nostalgic for the '90s!

In her new campaign for Smashbox Cosmetics, titled "Isn't It Iconic?" the Baywatch star, 56, is featured in content for its famous Original Photo Finish Primer rocking the skinny bows and smoky eyes she was known for in the '90s.

The author and activist, who has been making headlines for going makeup-free lately, shared the spot on Instagram with a meaningful message about makeup.

"Make up is a fun extension of who we are, but it isn’t all we are…," Anderson began her note.

Anderson added that she and the brand's founder Davis Factor go way back, so when she was approached to participate "a few months ago" she says she "was honored" to "wink to the past.'

Anderson ends her message, "The best over all beauty secret … for anyone, at any age … is a smile."

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, Anderson explained why she decided to embrace the era again for Smashbox.

"The beauty industry wasn’t looking at me back in the ’90s. But now, since the ’90s are popular, I’m just going to take that. I’m just going to be happy about it," Anderson said.

She also explained that she's not making any grand statements when she goes out without makeup. "I am not trying to say that I’m this natural-beauty guru [by going makeup-free]. I’m just experimenting."

Anderson, who lauded the primer for being vegan and cruelty-free, said that she also liked the idea of being featured in an the campaign because the role of the product is to separate a person's skin from the makeup.

"So I’m thinking about how to protect your skin and how to still use makeup as an extension and expression," Anderson said.

As for the '90s look that she's become known for, which has been an inspiration for countless others, Anderson said she really wasn't trying to set any trends.

"I just was having a good time and trying to juggle the beach and babies and rock stars," she said noting that she thinks she had low self-esteem at the time.

But Anderson is going makeup-free more often now because it feels more true to her lifestyle and herself.

"If you don’t rely on others’ approval, you can have a much more fairy-tale magical life, I think," she said.
