Pamela Anderson Is Being Accused of Racism Over Her Halloween Costume

From Cosmopolitan

  • Pamela Anderson dressed up in a Native American headdress for Halloween and is being accused of racism and cultural appropriation.

  • Pamela has denied doing anything wrong following backlash.

Today in YIKES news, Pamela Anderson just responded to accusations of racism over her Halloween costume—and let's just say she's not apologizing. The former Baywatch star posted a look at her costume to Twitter on October 31, and was immediately met with backlash for wearing a Native American headdress.

It goes without saying that appropriating someone else's culture is not a costume—and Pamela was swiftly called out by people on social media. As one Twitter user aptly put it, "I know you tried to take pretty pictures, but using other people's culture and symbols—especially people who are continually marginalized—is way beyond not ok and actively harms others."

Here's a sampling of her replies:

Meanwhile, president of the Nuu-Chah-Nulth Tribal Council Judith Sayers said she was "totally disgusted" by the tweet, telling CBC's All Points West "You know for a person of her stature, she should know better."

You'd think Pamela would have listened to some of the feedback about her post, but instead she hit back by posting a link to an article titled “The Illogic of Cultural Appropriation," which basically attempts to justify cultural appropriation despite repeated statements from community leaders about how harmful it is.

Honestly, this whole thing is not a great look for Pamela so here's to hoping she reflects on her, um, choices.
