Are you ready for your next TV obsession? Apple TV+ revealed the official trailer for its new series Palm Royale earlier this year, and it already looks like a lock to dominate the next awards season. The comedy stars Kristen Wiig, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, and Carole Burnett as larger-than-life characters in 1960s Palm Beach. And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, comes a new behind-the-scenes featurette which shows—among many soon-to-be iconic scenes—Wiig attacking Burnett’s character with a pillow, and Wiig and Janney yelling the word “c-ck.”

Loosely based on the novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel, Palm Royal follows Maxine Simmons (Wiig) “as she endeavors to break into Palm Beach high society” in “the powder keg year of 1969.”

Basically, if you’re still missing Mad Men but secretly wished it were a comedy, this is the show for you. And Glamour has the aforementioned behind-the-scenes featurette, Inside the Palm Royale, which is quite honestly the best thing we’ve seen all year.

Take a look at the exclusive video:

In addition to the brilliance you just watched, here are a few more exclusive photos from the series, which premieres Wednesday, March 20.

When will Palm Royale be released? The first three episodes of Palm Royale will hit Apple TV+ on March 20, 2024, with new episodes airing every Wednesday until May 8.

Who is involved behind the scenes? Aside from their starring roles, Wiig and Dern will serve as executive producers alongside writer Abe Sylvia, who worked as a co–executive producer on Dead to Me and The Affair. Sylvia’s writing credits also include The Eyes of Tammy Faye starring Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield.

As showrunner, Sylvia is also directing the series alongside Tate Taylor, Claire Scanlon, and Stephanie Laing.

Okay, tell me more about the plot. Here is a full synopsis from the Apple TV+ press release:

Palm Royale is a true underdog story that follows Maxine Simmons (Wiig) as she endeavors to break into Palm Beach high society. As Maxine attempts to cross that impermeable line between the haves and the have-nots, Palm Royale asks the same question that still baffles us today: “How much of yourself are you willing to sacrifice to get what someone else has?” Set during the powder keg year of 1969, Palm Royale is a testament to every outsider fighting for their chance to truly belong.

Is there a trailer? Oh yes, and it’s delicious in every way.

Mark my words, Palm Royale is going to inspire all your vacation looks from this point forward.

This post will be updated.
