Palisades Tahoe Shows That They're Still Buried In Feet Of Snow

The majority of snow is melted out in the lower elevations surrounding Lake Tahoe, but fear not, the mountains are still buried.

Palisades Tahoe, CA, the region's largest ski resort, will welcome skiers and riders to  on weekends through July 4th. The resort posted the video below to show how much snow is still blanketing the mountain:

Can everybody double check their calendars for me, please? I'm seeing it's June 5th, 2023, but that can't be right.

That video looks like it was filmed in late-March! Am I tripping?

No, I'm not tripping. Palisades Tahoe picked up more snow this season (723 inches) than any in recorded history, and while the snowpack is definitely dwindling, it's going to take a long time before it's completely melted.

The resort is currently reporting a 53-inch snow base at the Alpine Base area at 6,950 feet, and a whopping 147-inch base at 8,000 feet on the upper mountain.

To put that in perspective, many resorts are thrilled when they hit a 100-inch base in the middle of February.

Happy summer ski season everybody! Looks like there will plenty of snow to go around for us all.
