Palisades Tahoe To Require Parking Reservations Next Season

Palisades Tahoe, the largest ski resort in the Lake Tahoe region, has just announced that they will implement parking reservations next season as a response to on-going traffic issues.

Reservations will only be required on weekends from mid-December through March and over the holidays. Full details in the social media post below:

The big question is whether or not the reservations will include a fee. Unfortunately, the answer is yes. Here's more details from an FAQ published by the resort:

"Parking reservations will ONLY need to be made for the Saturdays, Sundays, and select holiday periods noted above. Fees will apply from daybreak to midday; after that, all parking will be free. We ask for your patience as we continue to work through the details."

Palisades has not decided on how much the reservation will cost, but has ensured that all funds generated will be invested in "buses and transportation initiatives."

Parking reservations will be required on weekends and holidays at both Olympic Valley and Alpine Meadows.

Here's a further explanation as to why Palisades is implementing parking reservations on their busiest days of the season:

"The Lake Tahoe region has a traffic issue. If your travels or daily commute brought you to Tahoe this winter, particularly on weekends and holidays, you have likely experienced it first-hand. On busy days, our parking lots reach capacity and we're forced to turn away guests, who then get back on the road, further congesting traffic."

In other words, too many people are trying to ski Palisades Tahoe on the weekends. The resort is hoping that a reservation system will lower the number of cars attempting to reach the mountain substantially.

Will it work? We'll have to wait 'til next season to know for sure.
