Palisades Tahoe Lays Out New Parking Reservation Program

Parking at Palisades Tahoe, California, as with other major ski resorts in North America, has become a serious problem, with lots unable to account for increasing skier demand.

Approaches vary from resort to resort, from reducing the number of purchasable passes to tweaking the lot reservation systems.

Palisades Tahoe has opted for the latter option. In a video released roughly a month ago, they outlined their parking plan for the upcoming season.

The system isn't particularly complicated, as explained in a statement from Palisades Tahoe's website:

"To mitigate traffic on regional roadways during peak times, we will be implementing a new reservation-based parking system at Palisades Tahoe this winter season. On Saturdays, Sundays, and select holidays, a parking reservation will be required for ALL parking lots."

To secure one of these parking spots, you need to participate in Palisades Tahoe's first come, first serve system. Every Tuesday, inventory for weekend and holiday slots will be released online and be available until the lots are full. Remember, reserving a parking spot this way is free.

Palisades Tahoe will also offer paid advance parking reservations for $30, a system designed "for guests who need to reserve Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays WELL IN ADVANCE." Think tourists who know they'll be in Tahoe this coming January and don't want to risk losing a spot during the Tuesday scramble.

These policies won't impact midweek skiing and riding days -- you can arrive when you'd like and grab a spot without making a reservation.
