Palace aides reportedly worry Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s voting video “violated” their agreement with the palace.
Uh, the royal family is “wringing their hands,” apparently.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made an appearance in ABC’s TIME100 special a few days ago, encouraging viewers to vote in the upcoming U.S. presidential election. As a reminder: The royal family is politically neutral (in fact, they aren’t even allowed to vote), but to be clear, Meghan and Harry didn’t endorse anyone. However! Apparently, royal aides told The Times (via Insider) that the royal fam viewed the couple’s comments as “a violation” of their agreement with the royal household, which, ugh.
“The [royal] family are all wringing their hands, thinking: Where is this going and does this abide by the deal to uphold the values of the Queen?” an aide said. “The feeling is it’s a violation of the agreement.”

I mean…again, Meghan and Harry didn’t endorse anyone. In fact, all Meghan said was this: “We’re just six weeks out from Election Day, and today is National Voter Registration Day. Every four years, we are told the same thing, that ‘this is the most important election of our lifetime.’ But this one is. When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard. Your voice is a reminder that you matter. Because you do. And you deserve to be heard.”
Meanwhile, Harry actually reminded everyone that he’s “not going to be able to vote here in the U.S.” and he has not “been able to vote in the UK my entire life,” before going on to stress the importance of rejecting hate speech and misinformation online.
Not sure any of this is that controversial, but okay, royal aides!
