The professional golfer and SI Swimsuit model says, “It can be defeating.”

Professional golfer Paige Spiranac is fed up with body shaming on social media.

The 29 year old SI Swimsuit model explained that she had to delete a handful of negative comments on a recent golfing video. She shared on her Instagram Story that “the amount of men calling me 'fat' on this post is next level lol. I've had to delete so many comments which I almost never do."

People reported that Spiranac continued on her now-expired story, stating, "I know I have a male dominated audience and wanted to open up the floor to hear about your experiences with body insecurities. I don't think it's talked about enough how men are also body shamed. We all feel the pressure to look a certain way.”

It’s not Spiranac’s first time dealing with online trolling or bullying. In 2018, when the Arizona native was featured in SI Swimsuit, she shared vulnerably about the cyberbullying that she experienced early in her career, and how deeply it affected her.

“I was sitting in the bathroom just balling and was like ‘I don’t want to go through this pain, this feel of helplessness,” explained Spiranac. “Being alone. Scared. And I said I never wanted anyone to feel the way I felt in that moment. How scared I was. How helpless I felt in that I was bullied so bad to the point that I didn’t want to live anymore.'”

Spiranac works regularly with Cybersmile, a nonprofit devoted to ending cyberbullying. She also utilizes her large social media platform as a space to shine light on the problems and offer support to her followers.

“People of all walks of life are cyberbullied every single day and that’s not okay,” Spiranac told SI Swimsuit. “It’s time we start supporting the victims instead of telling them to delete social media or ignore the hate. It’s time we made a difference, so I’ve dedicated a significant portion of my time to helping others.”

Spiranac shared on her story that she is planning on sharing more about her health and fitness plans in hopes of shifting the conversation from one focused on "looking good" to one about "feeling good."
