Paige Davis Threw Shade at "Fixer Upper" Again

Fixer Upper may be over, but Paige Davis still has some beef with Chip and Joanna Gaines. While appearing on Today this Thursday to promote the reboot of Trading Spaces, Davis made yet another dig at the popular HGTV show that aired its series finale earlier this week.

“There’s a lot of fantasy design television out there, but people don’t have $450,000,” Davis said, appearing to reference the $100,000-plus budgets Chip and Joanna Gaines regularly used for home renovations on Fixer Upper.

Davis thinks the $2,000 budget that each couple gets to redecorate a room in a neighbor’s house is what made Trading Spaces so good in the first place.

“The level of jeopardy, the level of time constraint and budget constraint-it’s $2,000 in each room-we really don’t know if the homeowners are gonna like it,” Davis said.

“We kicked off this genre. And even though we spawned so many other, frankly, networks and television shows, there’s still, in a way, nothing like our show,” Davis also said, appearing to reference the entire HGTV network, which launched in 1994 but gained popularity with home design shows in the early 2000s when Trading Spaces was at its peak before ending in 2008.

This isn’t the first time Davis has called out the Gaineses and their design choices publicly, either. In January, Davis named shiplap as the one design trend she hopes will disappear at a panel at the Television Critics Association press tour to promote her show’s revival.

The comment appeared to be a direct dig at the wooden boards Joanna Gaines has popularized over the five-season run of Fixer Upper.

Trading Spaces returns to TLC for the first time in 10 years at 9 p.m. EST on Saturday, April 7.
