PA Ski Resort Touts New Snowmaking System Ahead Of Opening Day

Blue Mountain Resort, Pennsylvania, is touting its upgraded snowmaking system.

In a video shared last week, November 16th, the resort's Mountain Operations Director explained the system and what he looks for in terms of good snowmaking conditions.

Blue Mountain plans to open on November 24th, weather and conditions permitting.

As of today, November 20th, the resort has made little snow, meaning it'll need to really get those snow guns firing this week to open on the 24th.

Here's a look at the webcams.

The current status of Blue Mountain's snow coverage -- or the lack thereof -- begs an obvious question: can the resort turn it around in time for opening day?

The mid mountain forecast at the resort doesn't look particularly promising, calling for temperatures between the high 30s and high 40s. Still, as the resort's Mountain Operations Director notes, it's not purely about the standard temperature reading.

The wet bulb temperature -- which includes air temperature and humidity -- could be more cooperative, so a last minute save is possible.

Either way, we're rooting for Blue Mountain. Fingers crossed the resort can swing it.

In other news, Blue Mountain and its Pennsylvania neighbor Camelback Mountain were recently introduced to the Ikon Pass.
