Oxford regains control of Facebook page

Oct. 24—OXFORD — The city has regained control of its Facebook page.

The official announcement came with a posting late Monday afternoon.

"The reign of Hadley Julia is over!" began the post which noted it has "been a process to restore the city's official social media presence."

"Hadley Julia" was the name used when hackers changed the name from "The City of Oxford, Alabama" on Oct. 13 and began posting a series of intimate pictures.

The official page began its return on Friday with a posting of the Oxford logo.

Director of marketing Stacy Booth said once control was reestablished all the unofficial posts were removed.

Booth said the social media site only allows for name changes every 30 days and they are working with Meta, Facebook's parent company, to ensure the name is reverted to its original title as soon as possible.

"Subscribers can once again look forward to informative and family-friendly entertaining content from now on," Booth said.
